Vines' Career High Leads CSUB Past Fresno Pacific

Box Score

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Dajy Vines (R-Sr., Oxnard, Calif., Santa Clara HS) scored a career high 27 points to lead CSU Bakersfield past Fresno Pacific 82-60 in women's basketball action Wednesday night.

Vines scored 17 of her points in the first half. Vines made 10 of her 18 field goal attempts (5-of-10 from three-point range). The 5-9 forward also grabbed eight rebounds, made four steals, and dished out two assists.

“Dajy is one of our players who on any given night can step up and lead for us,” said CSUB head coach Greg McCall.

The Roadrunners shot 50% in the first half (20-of-40) to take a 51-20 lead over the Sunbirds into the break. CSUB struggled from the field in the second half, making only 13 of 42 attempts as Fresno Pacific connected on 15-of-21 attempts, 6-of-8 from three point range.

“We wanted to come out with some energy and work on some things,” McCall said. “We didn't have that same energy in the second half and we didn't execute the way we wanted to. We broke down defensively in the second half and they were able to hit some threes. We are not where we wanted to be. We'll take the win, but we have some things we need to work on.”

Vines led four CSUB starters in double figures. Brooklynn Hinkens (Sr., Lake Tapps, Wash., Auburn-Riverside HS) scored 15. Point guard Alyssa Shannon (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) had 13 points, six assists, and four steals. Shannon did not commit a turnover. Tyonna Outland (R-Sr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) moved into second place on the Roadrunner career scoring chart with 12 points.

Outland now has 1,541 points. Outland surpassed Amber Williams (1,538, 2009-13) to move into second. Her point total is the most scored by a CSUB player at the Division I level. Katie McElree (1,796, 2002-06) is the all-time leading scorer in CSU Bakersfield history.

The Roadrunners return to the Icardo Center Sunday when CSUB hosts Fresno State. Tip is set for at 12 p.m. Tickets are available at vallitix.com.
