Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Jamie Brown broke a tie nine minutes into the second half as Utah Valley defeated Bakersfield 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference women's soccer opener for the Roadrunners Friday night at the Main Soccer Field.
McKell Salmon put the Wolverines (6-4-2, 1-1 WAC) into the lead 47 seconds into the match with blast from 8 yards out. Hedda Regefalk (So., Stockholm, Sweden, Blackebergs Gymnasium) tied the match in the 30th minute when she converted a Taylor Wheeler (Jr., Fullerton, Calif., La Habra HS) pass from five yards out.
Brown's game winnner came off a Kallie Suesue long crossing pass that broke through the 'Runner defense. CSUB's best chance came with 2:30 to play when Jess Moorehead's (Fr., Strabane, N. Ireland, Strabane Academy) had a shot inside the 18, but Jessica Duffin turned away the attempt and preserved the Wolverines' lead.
Bakersfield (1-9-1, 0-1 WAC) continues WAC action Sunday when the 'Runners host Seattle U at 12 p.m.
