Box Score SAN JOSE, Calif.—Greg Harte scored a pair of second half goals as San José State defeated Bakersfield 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference men's soccer action Sunday afternoon.
The teams played a scoreless first half during which San José State outshot the 'Runners 5-3. Nicolas Clever (So., Cologne, Germany, Gesamtschule Kuerten) made three saves in the opening stanza.
The Spartans (5-8-1, 3-2-1 WAC) took the lead in the 53rd minute when Harte took Reuben Want's pass and put it past Clever through the low left side of the net. Lucas Dall'Orso (Sr., Orange County, Calif., JSerra Catholic HS) nearly tied the score a little over four minutes later when had a shot saved by Spartans' goalie Felix Petermann at close range. Dall'Orso was turned away again in the 63rd minute when Petermann made a save of his shot inside the goalkeeper's box.
Harte recorded the insurance goal at exactly 75:00 when he picked the ball up from the end line and dribbled past the defense and shot the ball past Clever. The Roadrunners tried to mount a comeback. A Christian Duarte (Jr., Houston, Texas, Clear Springs HS) blast was saved by Petermann in the 82nd minute. San José State would outshoot CSUB 11-8 for the match. Clever ended the day with five saves. Peterman earned the shutout with a total of four saves.
Bakersfield (8-6-1, 2-4 WAC) continues a three-game road swing Friday when the 'Runners travel to league leader UNLV. Kick is set for 7 p.m. Bakersfield returns home Friday, Nov. 7 when CSUB hosts Utah Valley at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at vallitix.com.
