Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- The Bakersfield women's soccer team faced a tall challenge on Sunday with a match against the WAC-leading Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos. The 'Runners (2-13-1, 1-5 WAC) fell by a score of 4-0.
Ellie Chadick leads the WAC in assists but played the role of goal scorer, giving Missouri-Kansas City (10-3-2, 6-0 WAC) a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. Despite being outshot 14-1 in the first half, the 'Runner defense held up and trailed by just one goal at halftime.
Nikki Lynch put away a ball from Kara Priest at 55:00 to give the Kangaroos a 2-0 lead. Ellie Chadick set up her sister, Hannah Chadick, to give the 'Roos a 3-0 lead in the 63rd minute. UMKC put away their fourth goal with just over ten minutes left on Whitney Lucas' fourth of the season.
Bakersfield was outshot 23-2 in the game with Maja Green (Fr., Falkoping, Sweden, Allebergsgymnasiet HS) and Alex Bachman (So., Buena Park, Calif., Cypress HS) putting up the lone shots for the Roadrunners. “There's never a good time to give away a goal, but it makes the game much more difficult when you do it very early in the game,” said Gary Curneen, Bakersfield's Head Coach. “UMKC are a very good team and, to their credit, took full advantage. We look back on the weekend and take the positives from Friday night; however, we need to improve on days like these if we are to finish the season how we would like to.”
The 'Runners will travel home to begin a final home stand to close out the regular season. Bakersfield will play host to Texas-Pam American and New Mexico State next week before finishing the season at home against Grand Canyon the following week. Tickets for each home game can be purchased ahead of time on Vallitix.com.
