Box Score OREM, Utah—Utah Valley scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Bakersfield 2-1 Friday night.
Maja Green (Fr., Falkoping, Sweden, Allebergsgymnasiet HS) put the 'Runners into the lead when she headed in Jess Moorhead's (Fr., Strabane, N. Ireland, Strabane Academy) corner kick in the fifth minute.
Kasandra Anderson tied the match at one with long ball that went into the top left of the CSUB net in the 65th minute. Kim Stratford put back Jamie Brown's rebound seven minutes later to give the Wolverines the lead for good.
Roadrunner goalie Tori Ornela (R-Jr., Lemoore, Calif., Lemoore HS) reset the Bakersfield Division I record for most saves in a match with 12. Ornela broke the previous school mark of 11 which was set by Kym Gause against Pacific Sept. 11, 2011. The 12 saves are the second most ever in a match by 'Runner keeper, trailing the 15 which was posted by Stephanie Hall against Cal State Stanislaus on Nov. 2, 2002. Utah Valley outshot Bakersfield 20-4, 13-0 in the second half.
Utah Valley improves to 8-4-2, 3-1 in WAC play. Bakersfield drops to 1-11-1, 0-3 in the WAC. The Roadrunners travel to WAC leader Seattle U Sunday. Kick is set for 11 a.m.
