LAS VEGAS, Nev.--Junior Mitchell Huxhold (Escondido, Calif., San Paqual HS) was a bright spot for the Bakersfield men's swimming and diving team during the tri-dual at UNLV Saturday.
Huxhold was second in the 1650 freestyle (15:43.88) and second in the 500 free (4:35.35). He swam a season best :46.89 in the 100 free to place sixth.
Huxhold anchored the 400 free relay that finished fifth (3:07.97). Huxhold swam :46.50 on his leg of the relay. Swimming ahead of Huxhold on the relay were Alex Kotliarsky (R-Sr., Denver, Colo., Indiana Univ.), Gabriel Bertrand (Jr., Tibero, Sweden, Nykopingssimg Gymnasium), and Fran Cverle (Sr., Zagreb, Croatia, Limestone College).
Bertrand finished sixth in the 200 free (1:42.95). Jordan Singleton (R-Sr., Mission Hills, Calif., Ventura College) was sixth in the 100 back (:52.18) and sixth in the 200 back (1:53.26).
The Roadrunners lost 217-74 to No. 23 UNLV and 224-75 to Air Force.
"We had some great swims from Mitchell Huxhold, Gabriel Bertrand and Jordan Singleton today," said Bakersfield director of swimming and diving Chris Hansen. "We knew today would be tough as all both of these teams are nationally ranked. Mitchell's times are on tract for an NCAA berth this March."
Bakersfield closes the regular season Feb. 6 when the 'Runners host No. 4 California at 2 p.m.
