Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo.--Dajy Vines' (R-Jr., Oxnard, Calif., Santa Clara HS) three-pointer with 8:44 to play put Bakersfield back into the lead for good as the Roadrunners defeated Kansas City 87-80 Saturday in Western Athletic Conference women's basketball play.
After trailing by as much as six in the first half, Bakersfield led 42-41 at halftime. The Roadrunners held a 50-45 advantage early in the second half, but the Kangaroos responded with a 10-0 run for the lead. The teams battled and with the score tied for the ninth time, Calli White put the 'Roos up 61-59. On the ensuing CSUB possession, Vines hit the go-ahead bucket, putting Bakersfield up for good.
Tyonna Outland (R-Jr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) led Bakersfield with 27 points. The 5-9 wing was 9-of-16 from the field, 3-of-4 from three-point range, and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Outland made four steals and blocked two shots. Vines scored 18 points, going 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Alyssa Shannon (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS), the 'Runners 5-2 point guard, scored 13 points and grabbed a career high eight rebounds. Shannon also had three assists and three steals. Brooklynn Hinkens (Jr., Lake Tapps, Wash., Auburn-Riverside HS) tallied 11 off the bench for the 'Runners.
Kansas City (7-13, 3-4 WAC) was led by Eilise O'Connor who scored 31 points.
Bakersfield (10-8, 4-2 WAC) hosts New Mexico State State Thursday night at 7 p.m.
