Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz.--Bakersfield played to a 1-1 tie at Grand Canyon Friday night.
Alex Bachman (Fr., Buena Park, Calif., Cypress HS) scored the first Roadrunner goal in six matches at the 14:04 mark of the first half when she put back an Erica Shelton (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., UC Santa Barbara) rebound. The goal broke a 577-minute scoreless drought for the 'Runners, dating back to the Sept. 1 match against Sacramento State.
The Antelopes tied the score in the 75th minute on a CSUB own goal. The ball went off of Roadrunner defender Becca Ellis (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Wilson HS). Bakersfield had three scoring chances a little over a minute later, but the 'Lopes made three saves to turn away the 'Runner threat.
After a scoreless first overtime, Grand Canyon threatened in the 107th minute when Jessica Fitzgerald took a shot on goal which resulted in a team save for the Roadrunners.
"We began the game with great energy and were rewarded with a goal," said Bakersfield head coach Melissa Phillips. "Our set pieces are something we worked to capitalize on this week. We must be better on both ends of the ball in the box."
CSUB returns home next weekend for matches against Seattle U (Friday at 7) and Idaho (Sunday at 12).
