PASADENA, Calif. - Sophomore Derek Stotler (Vista, Calif., Rancho Buena Vista HS) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, also moving up to the No. 4 spot in CSUB's all-time record book, and senior Thomas Judge (Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) took first place in the hammer throw to lead the CSU Bakersfield men's and women's track and field teams on Friday and Saturday at the Pasadena Games.
Stotler notched a personal-record time of 9:49.70 to move from No. 11 on CSUB's all-time list to No. 4. Judge won the hammer throw with a toss of 183-10. The CSUB women were led by four different relay teams that all recorded top-seven finishes.
"There were several season-best marks at this meet," said CSUB Director of Track and Field Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "We are seeing a lot of good progress, especially considering the stress of having finals this week."
Sophomore Bryan Wilmert (Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) notched a personal-record mark of 165-8 in the hammer and took second. He also placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 43.5 feet. Junior Gabe Holland (Anchorage, Alaska, University of Alaska) placed fourth in the discus and hammer with marks of 146-06 and 160 respectively.
The women were led by the 4X800 and 4X1600 relay teams, which both placed third with times of 10:21.60 and 22:43.13 respectively. The 'Runner 4X400 squad placed sixth (4:00.78) and the 4X100 team took seventh (48.35).
Individually, freshman Jamara Scott (Bakersfield, Calif., Golden Valley HS) finished seventh in the long jump by bounding 17.7 feet. Sophomore runner Alyssa Page (Santa Rosa, Calif., Montgomerey HS) placed eighth in the 200-meter by clocking a 25.08.
CSUB will be back in action on April 5 at the Tommy Lister Invitational in Los Angeles.
