BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- With just four games remaining in the 2012-13 season the CSUB Roadrunner men's basketball team takes to the floor Wednesday night hosting South Dakota State (21-7, 12-3 Summit League) at Rabobank Arena in the first of two home games this week as CSUB closes out the home portion of their schedule.
The Roadrunners (10-16) fell 69-63 back on December 9 to the Jackrabbits in Brookings, South Dakota in one of their best road performances of the season nearly snapping South Dakota State's long-standing home winning streak. In that game the Roadrunners were led by freshman Britton Williams (Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) who made his first collegiate start after illness forced Tyrone White (Sr., Portland, Ore., North Idaho CC) to miss the trip. Williams scored a career-high 18 points on 8-15 from the field and 2-3 from beyond the arc while Stephon Carter (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) added 17 for the Roadrunners who will be playing their final game of the season at Rabobank Arena where they are 2-1 this season.
Carter continues to lead the Roadrunners with 16 ppg and after his game-high 22 in CSUB's 79-73 overtime loss at UT Pan American last Thursday, he now has nine 20 or-better point games this season. He's also shooting a career-high 48% from the field.
South Dakota State meanwhile has won 10 of their last 11 games and are coming off a weekend sweep at home against IUPUI and Western Illinois. They possess one of the best guards in the NCAA in senior Nate Wolters who is averaging 22.8 ppg while shooting 49% from the field and 41% from three-point range. Wolters is currently the third-highest scorer amongst NCAA Division I players. He also recently set SDSU's all-time assist record and has 141 this season. Wolters scored 18 versus CSUB in December.
Tip off is scheduled for 7 P.M. at Rabobank Arena. Tickets are available online at GoRunners.com or by calling the Rabobank Arena box office.
