Box Score BAkERSFIELD, Calif.--Tyonna Outland (R-Jr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) scored a game high 24 points as Bakersfield held off Concordia-Irvine 84-79 in women's basketball action Tuesday night in the Icardo Center.
The Roadrunners (1-2) took their largest lead of the game with 6:55 to go when Alyssa Shannon (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) connected on a three-pointer from the right corner. The Eagles mounted a charge that got CUI to within three, 82-79, with 10 seconds remaining when Asia Auberry stole the ball away from Shannon and scored on a layup. After a Concordia timeout, the Eagles fouled Outland who made both of her free throws to put the game away for the Roadrunners.
Outland added six rebounds and five assists (against no turnovers). Batabe Zempare (So., Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) charted her second straight double-double as she scored 16 points and grabbed a CSUB Division I school record 19 rebounds. Zempare's 19 rebounds broke the old school Division I record that was accomplished on two occasions, most recently by Janae Coffee (R-Jr., Fresno, Calif., Long Beach State) in Jan. of this year against New Orleans.
The Roadrunners return to the court Saturday at UNLV. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
