Box Score CHICAGO, Ill.--Bakersfield (16-10, 8-4 WAC) swept Chicago State (2-24, 0-12 WAC) 3-0 in Western Athletic Conference volleyball play Saturday afternoon.
The Roadrunner took set one by a 25-18 count. The Cougars led 24-20 in set two before the 'Runners rallied to take a 27-25 victory. Bakersfield opened the third set on a 9-0 run and never looked back, winning the final set by a score of 25-8.
Bakersfield hit .434 (45-9-83) for the match. Debora Araujo (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) hit .a career best .524, recording 11 kills in 21 attempts against no errors. Kelsee Sawyer (So., Temecula, Calif. ,Great Oak HS) hit .500 (12k-3e-18ta) and added three service aces. Molly O'Hagan (Jr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) also hit .500 (10-2-16).
"Our players came out focues and ready to compete today," said Bakersfield head coach Jolene Shepardson. "It was a good response and this week, I know they will continue to that focus to prepare for Grand Canyon."
The Roadrunners host Grand Canyon next Saturday at 4 p.m. to continue league play.
