Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Bakersfield picked up its first Western Athletic Conference women's soccer victory Sunday afternoon as the Roadrunners defeated Idaho 1-0.
Emily Noethe (Sr., Dallas, Ga., East Paulding HS) headed in an Erica Shelton (Sr., Bakersifeld, Calif., UC Santa Barbara) cross with 1:20 remaining in the first half for what proved to be the gamewinner. The Roadrunners (2-9-1, 1-3-1 WAC) would outshoot the Vandals (3-9, 3-2 WAC) 14-2 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. 'Runner goalie Tori Ornela (R-So., Lemoore, Calif., Lemoore HS) recorded her second career shutout.
“We did a really good job of moving forward (from what we did well) on Friday night,” said Bakersfield head coach Melissa Phillips. “We were able to take care of the ball in the midfield and in the backline which gave us an opportunity to score and get the shutout. We have a long road ahead of to get where we want to be, but there are a lot of games left.
Bakersfield hosts New MexicoState Friday night at 7 p.m.
