Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev.--UNLV defeated Bakersfield 2-0 in the WAC men's soccer opener for both teams Sunday afternoon.
Jason Khamvongsa headed in a Julian Portugal free kick in the 24th minute for the opening goal. Salvador Bernal added the second goal in the 67th minute for the Rebels. UNLV outshot the 'Runners 15-9, 7-5 on goal. Bakersfield held the corner kick advantage 7-3.
“It was a tired, jaded performance,” said Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin. “I thought UNLV played with more desire than us. We have had a tough preseason and traveled non-stop but we need to be sharper and more resilient in our conference matches.
The Roadrunners return to the pitch Friday night at San JoseState. Kick is set for 7 p.m.
