'Runners Fall 2-1 At Seattle U

Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash.--Bakersfield scored first, but WAC leader Seattle U came from behind to defeat the Roadrunners 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Championship Field.

The teams played to a scoreless first half before Hedda Regefalk (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden, Balckebergs Gymnasium) tallied her third goal of the year from just in front. Megan Todd (So., Norwich, England, Sprowston Community HS) got the assist on the play which occured 5:44 into the second half.

Jacqui Walls tied the score at 70:30 from a Mary Hill cross. Heather Thomas scored the gamewinner after a pair of one-touch passes from Stephanie Verdoia and Kiana Kraft. The Redhawks outshot the 'Runners 17-2 (7-2 on goal). Seattle U had five corner kick compared to zero for the Roadrunners.

"I'm really proud of the way we played this weekend and especially today," said Bakersfield head coach Melissa Phillips. "We battled, we were organized, and we had a few quality looks at their goal. Seattle is a very good team, but I like the way with matchup against them. We have the ability to rattle a team who is crusing through the conference. I commend this group's efford and focus today."

The Roadrunners return one last time this season to the Main Soccer Field when Bakersfield hosts Grand Canyon next Sunday at 12 p.m.
