BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Junior Mitchell Huxhold (Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS)won a pair of individual events as the Bakersfield men's swimming & diving team split a pair of Western Athletic Conference duals on opening day of the 2013-14 season.
The Roadrunners defeated Seattle U 189-99 but dropped a 156-132 decision to Grand Canyon. Huxhold picked up victories in the 500 free (4:32.19) and the 1000 free (9:22.92). Huxhold was second in the 200 free (1:41.22) and was swam the anchor leg of the 400 free relay that placed second (3:04.36).
Other winners on the day for Bakersfield were; Alex Kotliarsky (R-Sr. Denver, Colo., Indiana Univ.) in the 200 free (1:41.22), Justin Angelo (Fr., La Habra, Calif., La Habra HS) in 1m diving (235.75), and Tyler Greenwald (Fr., Henderson, Nev., Coronado HS) in 3m diving (262.50).
"We have a tough road ahead of them if we can't pull some of the stroke events out," said Bakersfield director of swimming & diving Chris Hansen. "We dominated the free events, but and the IM and backstroke events hurt us. Huxhold continues to lead us in the pool. We are ready to show the WAC we are not fooling around."
The Roadrunners are at Pacific next Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
