Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Kansas City defeated Bakersfield 3-0 in Western Athletic Conference women's soccer action.
The match was scoreless until the 42nd minute when UMKC took the lead on a Roadrunner own goal. The Kangaroos would get two goals from Taylor Bare in the 72nd and 87th minutes to close the scoring. Bare leads the WAC in goals with 10. Both teams took nine shots while corner kicks were in favor of the 'Roos 6-3.
"We definitely did a good job to change the energy in the second half," said Bakersfield head coach Melissa Phillips. "You felt a goal coming with the way we came out in the first half. It was flat. I understand a lot of our players played a ton of minutes on Friday night, but we have got to be more resilient than that and have a bit of an edge to us."
"I felt we kept pushing it even after their second goal," Phillips continued. "We had some good opportunities. We have to have a resiliency. We have to show that bite and that feistiness on the defensive end that we showed in the last two or three games and we have to clean up some opportunities with our technical ability."
The Roadrunners travel to Idaho (Friday) and Seattle U (Sunday) next week to continue league play.
