Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Freshman Hedda Regefalk (Stockholm, Sweden, Balckebergs Gymnasium) scored with 1:56 remaining in the second overtime to give Bakersfield a 2-1 victory over NM State Friday night.
The 'Runners scored first when Emily Noethe (Jr., Dallas, Ga., East Paulding HS) converted off a pair of touch passes from Regefalk and Taylor French (Monrovia, Calif., Monrovia HS) in the 33rd minute. The Aggies tied the score 3:38 into the second half on Jennae Cambra's goal.
Bakersfield appeared to have score the gamewinning goal with less than 30 seconds to go in regulation but the Regefalk's tally was waived off due to a CSUB foul. The Roadrunners were forced to make a goalkeeper change at the start of overtime as starter Tori Ornela (R-So., Lemoore, Calif., Lemoore HS) was injured late in the second half. Freshman Megan Vina (McKinleyville, Calif., Arcata HS) entered the match go the rest of the way for CSUB.
The Aggies pressed, outshooting Bakersfield 6-3 in overtime including a 4-1 advantage in the second OT. Vina made three of her four saves in the second overtime. The gamewinning sequence would begin with a Taylor Jordan (Sr., Tulare, Calif., Tulare Union HS) long pass to Erica Shelton (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., UC Santa Barbara) who sent the ball to Regefalk. Aggies' goalie Jessica Schutter came out to try and make the stop, Regefalk beat Schutter from 15 yards out for the gamewinner.
"We just made it a little bit too difficult on ourselves," said Bakersfield head coach Melissa Phillips. "We had a lapse of focus in the first five minutes of the second half, but for a large majority of the game we were the better team. Luckily, we were able to weather their momentum. I think it was absolute heart and will that we got that goal in the second overtime. Our starting goalkeeper came out for a ball in the middle of the second half and sprained her elbow. She will be fine, but you could tell she was playing one-armed for a little bit. We are very confident in our backup goalkeeper. She's a freshman, but she has proven herself time and time again when she goes in to play and does a fantastic job."
The Roadrunners conclude a four-game homestand Sunday when Bakersfield hosts Kansas City at 12 p.m.
