BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Ali Gillespie (So.
Huntington Beach, Calif., Oregon State)
posted a victory in the 200 freestyle during the tri-dual against Fresno State and UNLV Jan. 5.
Gillespie won the 200 free by almost two seconds (1:53.54 over the runner-up from UNLV. Gillespie also finished fourth in the 50 free (:24.60), and sixth in the 100 free (:53.86). She also swam the leadoff leg on the CSUB 400 free relay (3:34.93) the came home third.
Michaela Paige (Fr., Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) finished second in the 500 free (5:07.88), second in the 200 butterfly (2:08.46), and fourth in the 400 IM (4:39.79).
Nicolette Goncalves (Fr., Mississauga, Ontario, Erindale Secondary School) placed second in the 400 IM (4:37.88) and second in the butterfly (:58.51). Delise Batiza (So.
San Ramon, Calif., Oregon State) was third in the 1000 free (10:40.89) and fourth in the 500 free (5:15.41).
On the day, CSUB was 0-2 in dual competition. UNLV defeated the Roadrunners 188-96 while Fresno State defeated CSUB 173-125.
"This was the closest we have come in a dual against Fresno and UNLV," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. "With only one diver available, we couldn't maximize our opportunity in either of those events. We are a young team and I thought we competed very well on the second day of back-to-back duals."
The Roadrunners travel to San Diego next Saturday for a tri-dual at UC San Diego against the Tritons and Loyola Marymount.
