LOS ANGELES, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield
women's swimming team swept a tri-dual at Loyola Marymount Saturday. The
Roadrunners defeated the host Lions 151-137 and Cal Baptist 195-103.
With the victories, CSUB improves to 7-6 on the season.
"Our goal is to have a winning record this year, which would be
the first time in 11-plus years," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen.
"These two wins put us in that reach. We already have more wins then the last
five years combined. This is our second win of the season against LMU and it is
great for our spirit going into our first WAC championship."
Battling through an injury and proving what a true athlete she is,
CSUB freshman Michaela Paige (Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) won the 500-yard
freestyle with a time of 5:09.30 and was on the winning 400 free relay with
Ali Gillespie (So., Huntington Beach, Calif., Oregon State), Christy Vo (Fr.,
Portland, Ore., Reynolds HS) and Kelsey Lange (Fr., San Jose, Calif., Santa
Teresa HS). The foursome recorded a time of 3:31.16. Gillespie took second in
the 200 free, while Paige placed third.
Jordan Reed (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) added big
points by winning both of the diving competitions, taking the 1-meter event
with 195.65 points and winning the 3-meter with 188.90 points. Delise Batiza (So.,
San Ramon, Calif., Oregon State) also won two individual events by coming in
first in the 1000 free (10:38.87) and the 200 butterfly (2:10.52). Nicolette Goncalves (Mississauga, Ontario, Erindale Secondary School) placed first in the
100 fly with a time of 58.91.
"These were all big swims
that helped our victory today," Hansen said. "I am super proud of these
women. Michaela Paige, Ali Gillespie, Nicolette Goncalves and Delise Batiza continue to win meets for us."
The Roadrunners conclude the regular season
Feb. 9 by hosting Washington State at noon.
