BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
- Adding even more firepower to the Roadrunner attack, Los Angeles Pierce
College transfer Shayna Guitare has signed her National Letter of Intent to
join the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team for the 2012 season.
The 5-10 junior outside
hitter has a history of winning as she helped Los Angeles Pierce College win
back-to-back California Community College state volleyball championships in
2010 and 2011. The Torrance, Calif. native was a key part of the Pierce College
squad that posted a perfect 33-0 record in 2011.
"Shayna is another experience player who knows how to win,"
said CSUB head coach Jolene Shepardson. "She is going to add some great
leadership on and off the court with her passion for the game and life."
Guitare also compiled an impressive individual resume at Pierce
College as she earned second team all-conference honors in 2010 and 2011. In
the classroom, Guitare was just as stellar, being named as Pierce College's
Female Scholar Athlete and also earned places on the school's Honor Roll,
Dean's List and the President's Honor Roll in 2012 with a 3.81 GPA. At CSUB,
she will be studying kinesiology.
In high school at West
Torrance, Guitare served as a star volleyball and soccer player as well as a
standout track and field athlete. She was named West Torrance's Female Athlete
of the year in her senior year in 2009-10.
Guitare is the 11th
newcomer joining the Roadrunners in 2012, including the fifth junior college
transfer. The group will look to help the CSUB program continue moving in the
right direction in its second season under Shepardson after an 8-18 2011
campaign that was the sixth most improved season in the NCAA Division I in
2011.
