CSUB Concludes 2012 Against UCSB And Utah

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield (22-29) concludes the 2012 season this weekend with four games against UC Santa Barbara and Utah.

The Roadrunners take on the Gauchos on Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. CSUB and Utah will play Saturday night at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday at noon. UCSB and Utah will play each other on Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m.

CSUB has defeated UC Santa Barbara in two previous meetings this season to take a 5-3 all-time series lead. Utah defeated CSUB in 3-of-4 games during the 2009 season in the only previous meetings between the two teams.

The Gauchos defeated USC Tuesday night to improve to 25-27 on the season. UC Santa Barbara concluded Big West play with a 10-14 league mark. Brett Vertigan is UCSB's leading hitter at .380 clip. A pair of lefthanders; Kevin Gelinas (2-3, 4.29 ERA) or Andrew Vasquez (6-4, 2.08) will pitch on Friday against CSUB. On Sunday, Righty Austin Pettinbone (7-3, 4.62 ERA) will head to the mound against the Roadrunners.

The Utes are 14-38 and finished their first season in the Pac-12 Conference with a 7-23. Parker Morlin leads the team in hitting (.317) and RBI's (35). James Brooks has posted 10 home runs this season. Utah is scheduled to start Brock Duke (2-6, 4.60 ERA) on Friday against UCSB. The Utes have yet to determine a starter for Saturday against CSUB with Mitch Watrous (2-5, 3.49 ERA) going against the Roadrunners Sunday.

CSU Bakersfield (22-29) took advantage of seven Roadrunner batters hit by a pitch to defeat Cal State Northridge (23-27) Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

The seven hit batsmen broke the previous school record of four which had been reached three other times, most recently during the 2010 season at Arizona. The NCAA record for most hit batsmen is 10, set by three teams, most recently by Baylor earlier in the 2012 campaign.
