CLEVELAND, Ohio--The National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA) has selected former CSU Bakersfield Athletic Director Rudy Carvajal to the NACDA Hall of Fame.
Carvajal built the CSUB athletic department from scratch in 1972 and served as athletic director for 38 years. During Carvajal's tenure, the Roadrunners won 30 NCAA Division II National Championships. In 1998, CSUB became the first and to date, the only member of the California State University system to capture the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup (1998). 241 individuals won national championships with over 1,100 All-Americans performances turned in during Carvajal's tenure.
Carvajal stresses the importance of being a student-athlete, which is
apparent by the fact that Roadrunner student-athletes graduate at a rate
of 13% higher than the general student body. Over the course of his
leadership, CSUB student-athletes have been awarded numerous
postgraduate scholarships and have been recognized on Academic
All-America teams. Carvajal has also served on the NCAA Postgraduate
Scholarship Committee and on the John McLendon Minority Postgraduate
Scholarship Committee.
Carvajal will receive his award on Tuesday, June 26 at NACDA's 47th Annual Convention at the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Awards Luncheon, located at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
