Rain Dampens CSUB Finale At America Sky Tournament

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. - Rain dampened the CSU Bakersfield men's golf team's first-ever appearance in the America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championship on Tuesday, but the Roadrunners were still able to move up a spot in the team standings and finish in a tie for ninth place despite wet conditions that resulted in higher scores at Lake of Isles Golf Course.

CSUB, playing in its first NCAA Tournament qualifying competition since transitioning to the Division I level, combined to shoot a three-round total of 968 (326-307-335) to tie for ninth place with Binghamton and above the University of Texas-Pan American and Chicago State. Sacramento State captured the team title and NCAA Regional bid with a runaway performance after shooting a 878 (290-286-302), which was 42 strokes ahead of the competition.

"It was so rainy and the most miserable day of golf. Everyone is soaked," said CSUB head coach Dave Barber. "We were looking forward to this tournament all year and it is unfortunate that it had to have conditions like this. It was a nice event otherwise and a big step in the right direction for our program, but it is just too bad to have these conditions."

Roadrunner senior Jason Errecart (Kerman, Calif., Kerman HS) ended his career as a Roadrunner on a good note by shooting the lowest score for CSUB on Tuesday with an 80 that included three birdies. He totaled a 238 (82-76-80) and finished in a tie for 20th place.

Junior Matt Hammons (Bakersfield, Calif., Highland HS) carded an 82 on Tuesday to finish with a 242 (81-79-82) to tie for 32 place. CSUB freshman Dylan Lym (Evanston, Wyo., Evanston HS) shot an 83 on Tuesday and had a three-day total of 245 (89-73-83) to tie for 37th place. Sophomore Chase Goodvin (Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) took 48th place with a 251 (78-80-93) and junior Daniel Richardson (Surrey, England, Reedley College) took 50th place with a 254 (85-79-90).

Sacramento State's Cameron Rappleye won the individual crown with a 2-under 214 (71-71-72). After the tournament was completed, the America Sky Conference announced its all-tournament and all-conference selections:
