PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. - After firing an 8-over 79 on the first 18 holes, sophomore golfer Chase Goodvin (Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) cut his second-round total down by eight strokes with an even round of 71 to end the first day of the Triumph at Pauma Valley golf tournament in a tie for 12th place to lead the CSU Bakersfield golf team.
Goodvin went from being tied for 39th place, all the way up to tied for 12th. The final 18 holes of the tournament, which is being hosted by the University of San Francisco at Pauma Valley Country Club, which is 50 miles outside of San Diego, Calif., on Tuesday.
As a team, the Roadrunners are in eight place in the 11-team standings with a score of 632. They combined for a 319 on the first 18 and trimmed it down to 313 on the second 18 holes. The host Dons are atop the leaderboard at 575.
Matt Hammons (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Highland HS) is tied for 43rd place with a 159 (81-78), Daniel Richardson (Jr., Surrey, England, Reedley College) is tied for 50th with a 161 (80-81) and Jason Errecart (Sr., Kerman, Calif., Kerman HS) is tied for 55th after carding a 163 (80-83).
San Francisco's James Back is in first place in the individual standings with a 141 (68-73).
