San Francisco State Defeats CSUB 20-16

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - San Francisco State defeated CSU Bakersfield 20-16 in wrestling action Friday afternoon.

Anthony Box (R-Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) opened the dual at 157 pounds with a technical fall over Vincente Aboyess, but Isaiah Jimenez closed the CSUB lead to 5-3 when he defeated Adam Fierro (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) 9-5.

Arman Ostadsharif gave the Gators a 6-5 lead upon the conclusion of the 174-pound bout when he defeated Jesus Ambriz (Fr., Vista, Calif., Rancho Buena Vista HS) 3-2. Zachariah Jimenez increased the Gators' lead to 9-5 when defeated Ruben Franklin (Fr., Murrieta, Calif., Vista Murrieta HS) 7-6 at 184.

AC Brown (Fr., Oakdale, Calif., Oakdale HS) tied the dual when he posted a major decision (9-1) on Thomas Martin in the 197-pound bout. Otilio Gonzalez put San Francisco State back into the lead, 12-9, with a 10-4 victory against Frankie Hurtado (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) at heavyweight.

Miguel Comparan (R-Jr., Buena Park, Calif., Buena Park HS) tied the dual, 12-12, for CSUB with a 5-3 victory over Andrew Yu 5-3 in the 125-pound match.

Jose Mendoza (R-So., Selma, Calif., Selma HS) returned the lead to the Roadrunners (16-12) when posted a 10-2 victory against Julian Perez at 133. Daniel Flores cut the CSUB advantage to 16-15 when he earned a 5-2 decision over Justin Durham (R-Sr., Shingle Springs, Calif., Ponderosa HS) at 141 pounds.

Dylan Phillipy clinched the dual victory for the Gators when he posted a technical fall on Erik Martinez (R-Jr., San Jose, Calif., Bellarmine Prep) in the 149-pound bout.

The San Francisco State victory was the first for the Gators over CSU Bakersfield since 1974 (when San Francisco State handed the Roadrunners a 24-11 defeat), breaking a 34-dual winning streak for CSUB in the series.
