INDUSTRY HILLS, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield's Patrick Bell
(Jr., Manchester, England, Reedley College) finished the third and final day of
the Folino Invitational in a tie for 31st place with a three-round
score over 232 to lead the Roadrunner men's golf team on Tuesday at Industry
Hills Golf Course.
After rounds of 77 and 73 on Sunday and Monday respectively,
Bell struggled in round three with an 82 but still turned in the lowest score
for the 'Runners. Jason Errecart (Sr., Kerman, Calif., Kerman HS) finished in a
tie for 35th place with a 235 (81-74-80).
As a team, the Roadrunners finished with a three-day total
of 941 for ninth place in the 10-team tournament at Industry Hills, which is
regarded to be a very tough course to play.
"We didn't play very well," said CSUB head coach Dave Barber. "The golf course was very difficult and we just didn't handle it very well. We have a lot of work to do before our next tournament."
Matt Hammons (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Highland HS) and
Chase Goodvin (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) both improved their
scores on Tuesday's final round. Hammons carded a 76 to finish in 39th
place with a 236 (80-80-76) and Goodvin posted a 78 to total a 238 (76-84-78)
in tying for 42nd.
Long Beach State, won the team title with a 15-over 879.
Pepperdine's Paker Page (72-71-72) and Loyola Marymount (70-74-71) finished as
individual co-champions with 215s.
The Roadrunners will take a short break from competition
before returning to tournament play at the USF Invitational in San Diego,
Calif.
