FT. COLLINS, Colo.-The CSUB Roadrunners played a solid 30 minutes on the road Wednesday night at Colorado State but sputtered in the final 10 minutes as the Rams turned a 3-point game into a 78-58 win at Moby Arena.
The Roadrunners (4-8) led 35-34 at the half after shooting 50% from the field, and trailed by three points with 11 minutes remaining but ran out of steam as the Rams closed out the game on a 30-13 run to improve to 8-2 on the season.
"I thought we had a good game plan coming in an executed well for 30 minutes," said head coach Rod Barnes. " We just ran out of gas at the end and it got away from us. But I think we're in a good mindset, we'll get the guys some rest and be ready for this weekend's games."
CSUB led for much of the first half as there were four lead changes thanks to early hot shooting from Javonte Maynor (R-So., Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) who converted four of his first five three-pointers. Maynor and Tyrone White (Sr., Portland, Ore., North Idaho CC) led all scorers in the first half with 12 points apiece.
In the second half however the 'Runners managed just 7-27 from the field for 27% and 2-12 from three-point range as the Rams took advantage, while riding the hot-shooting of Wes Eikmeyer who was 5-8 in the half to lead the Rams with a team-high 17 points. All five Colorado St. starters finished in double digits.
For the second game in a row White led CSUB with 18 points on 6-14 shooting, Maynor finished with 16 while Stephon Carter (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) finished with 15 for the 'Runners.
CSUB will continue the third round of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic playing at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon against North Florida (3-8) who fell to Portland Wednesday night. Tip off is scheduled for 2:30 P.M.
