Zardes Scores Record 4 Goals In Win At Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash.- Two days removed from a Friday night heartbreaker, the CSUB Roadrunners opened up the offense and relied on their veteran goal scorers as they swept the season series from the Seattle Redhawks with a 6-2 win Sunday.

CSUB's Gyasi Zardes (Jr., Hawthorne, Calif., Leuzinger HS) scored a career and CSUB-record four goals in the match while senior midfielder Kory Kindle (Sr., Ventura, Calif.,Ventura HS) added two more as the 'Runners overcame a Seattle goal just 35 seconds into the match as they rolled to an MPSF Pacific Division victory.

"It was an excellent second-half performance," said CSUB head coach Simon Tobin. "Especially since a few of our players were being watched by the Seattle Sounders coaching staff."

Brady Bellew put the Redhawks on the board first following a steal at midfield in the opening minute, the Roadrunners however wouldn't trail long as Kindle tied the match in the 10th minute on a free-kick pass from Lucas Dall'Orso (So., Orange County, Calif., Jserra HS) who ended the match with a career-high three assists. The second assist came in the 17th minute when Dall'Orso found Zardes for what was the first of a record four goals for the junior forward.

Zardes' second tally game in the 35th minute when he dribbled through three Seattle defenders and managed to finish from five-yards out. Zardes would add two more goals in the second half netting his fourth career hat trick in the 82nd minute on a pass from Eduardo Caldaza (Fr., South Los Angeles, Calif., Roosevelt HS), he then scored his CSUB match-record fourth goal of the game when Joe Masumiya (So., Lakewood, Calif., Lakewood HS) found Zardes in the box as he beat the Seattle keeper for his 11th goal of the season.

Kindle also netted his fifth and sixth goals of the season, his second coming early in the second half when he headed in a Roadrunners free kick to give the 'Runners a 4-2 lead at the time.

Zardes also managed 11 shots, matching an all-time CSUB record he already held alongside Ayman Hamid who had 11 shots vs. Cal Poly Pomona in 1994. Zardes also accomplished the feat last season against Sacramento State.

The win improves the Roadrunners to 6-3-4 on the season. They remain on the road next week as they travel to Houston Baptist on Friday night and New Mexico on Sunday  at 1 P.M. MST in what will be a rematch of last season's MPSF Championship game.
