'Runners Fall To New Mexico St. In OT

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to New Mexico State on Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 in overtime.

The Aggies (2-10-3) need less than two minutes in extra time to beat the Roadrunners (5-9-2). NM State scored when sophomore defender Alexys Brownell headed a ball into the net for her first career goal.

"It is unfortunate that outside factors can affect the game of soccer so heavily. Having said that, we cannot be a victim to outside forces," said CSUB head coach Melissa Phillips. "We have to take charge and make the game suit our style. We need to continue working hard, learn how to keep focus under pressure, and stretch beyond our abilities to move forward. Give New Mexico State credit today as they gave a very good performance."

CSUB goalkeeper Tori Ornela (R-Fr., Lemoore, Calif., Lemoore HS) made six saves for the Roadrunners. Emily Noethe (So., Dallas, Ga., East Paulding HS) led CSUB with three shots, two of which were on goal. The 'Runners finished with five total shots and three shots on goal.

The Roadrunners will now have over a week off before returning to action on Oct. 24 when they will host Portland State.
