San Diego State Hands CSUB A 74-60 Defeat

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-San Diego State (10-4) defeated CSU Bakersfield (3-16) a 74-60 women's basketball defeat Saturday afternoon in the Icardo Center.

Chelsea Hopkins led four San Diego State players in double figures with 21 points. Hopkins also posted a game high eight assists and a team high six rebounds. Lauren Carter (R-Jr., Moorpark, Calif., Moorpark HS) paced the Roadrunners with 21 points and eight rebounds. Ciarra Ford (Jr., Long Beach, Calif, Mt. Sac College) scored 16 points. Kristine Herman (R-Sr., San Ramon, Calif., Florida Gulf Coast) scored 13 points and charted six rebounds.

The Aztecs held the Roadrunners to 31% shooting (9-of-29) in the first half and 35.6% shooting (21-of-59) for the game. San Diego State shot 50% for the game (28-of-56). The Aztecs outrebounded CSUB 45-26, but turned the ball over nine more times (20-11).

"Our defensive scheme was good," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "We need to be a lot more focused offensively. That would have made a big difference in the scoring in the game. In the first half we only had 23 points, they had 37 points. They had 10 turnovers, we had 10 turnovers. So that's how I know we weren't focused. We weren't moving. We weren't screening. We were having a hard time getting to the rim and getting inside which played to their advantage."

CSU Bakersfield continues its homestand Tuesday when CSUB hosts Nevada at 4:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the Roadrunner men's squad. The CSUB men play NJIT at 7 p.m.
