IRVINE, Calif.-CSUB (19-11) rallied from an 11-point first
half deficit to defeat UC Irvine (15-13) 85-74 in the Roadrunners' final
regular season women's basketball game Mar. 1.
CSUB opened the game on a 13-2 run before the Anteaters tied
the game at 23 with 8:36 to go in the first half. UC Irvine posted a 15-2 spurt
to take a 38-27 advantage with a little over three minutes to go in the opening
frame. UCI led 43-36 at halftime.
The Roadrunners tied the game 51-51 on a Brittany McGee
(Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Univ. of Albany) three pointer with 15:55 remaining
in the game. A Tyonna Outland (Fr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) layup just before
the first media timeout of the second half put the 'Runners into the lead for
good at 53-51. CSUB would lead by as much as 15 in the second half.
McGee and Amber Williams (So., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS)
each scored 24 points to pace CSUB. Williams
dished out eight assists. Outland had 16 points and five assists. The
Roadrunners shot 50.7% (35-of-69) for the game to overcome a 46-29 Irvine rebounding
advantage. CSUB forced 23 turnovers which resulted in 36 points.
