'Runners Win Streak Snapped at Montana State 71-67

'Runners Comeback Cut Short at Portland St. 91-87

PORTLAND, Ore.- Down by 12 points with just under three minutes remaining the odds looked stacked against CSUB who put together a 16-6 run over the next 2:30 seconds to pull within two points and a game-winning shot attempt that was never taken as the 'Runners push fell short falling 91-87 Thursday night in Portland.

The Roadrunners (5-4) played comeback basketball most of the night and put together a pair of second-half runs, the latter of which gave CSUB a chance at a game-tying or game-winning shot down by two with 26 seconds remaining. The ball however was lost and stripped from Stephon Carter on his drive in the lane and Portland State (6-4) took possession, hitting their final free-throws for the win.

“Obviously we're dissappointed with the results,” said head coach Rod Barnes. “I am proud of the way the guys came back, this team doesn't like to lose and they showed that but I wasn't happy with the defensive effort tonight,  giving up 91 points is too many and they got too many easy shots.”

CSUB trailed by 12 twice in the second half and fell victim to penetrating open looks by the Portland State back court with Michael Harthune scoring a game high 22 points on 9 of 11 from the field. The Vikings shot 33 of 49 on the game for 67% while CSUB shot a respectable 50% from the field once again including, 6 of 14 from three-point range in the loss.

The Roadrunners were led by Issiah Grayson (Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Southern Idaho CC) and Robert Hayes (Sr., San Diego, Calif., San Francisco State) who both scored 17 in the loss. Hayes was 5 of 9 from the field while Grayson was 6 of 9 with 6 assists. Portland native Tyrone White added 13 on his return to his hometown while Donald Johnson added 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting and a team-high 7 rebounds for the 'Runners who lost consecutive games for the first time this season.

CSUB continues their season-long road trip Saturday night at Idaho. Tip off is scheduled for 7 P.M.
