Oregon State Defeats CSU Bakersfield 85-62

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Oregon State (8-1) handed CSU Bakersfield (3-8) a 85-62 defeat Tuesday night in the Icardo Center. The Beavers used a height advantage to outmuscle the Roadrunners 60-30 in the paint and outrebound CSUB 47-28.

Oregon State led by as much as 16 in the first half before the Roadrunners chipped away at the Beavers' advantage and trailed 42-33 at halftime. CSUB scored the first five points of the second half to get within four, but the Beavers used a 13-2 spurt to regain control and go push towards victory.

Oregon State had five players score in double figures, paced by Patricia Bright who charted 16. Four of the six CSUB players who dressed scored in double figures, led by Ciarra Ford (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Mt. Sac College) who tied her season high with 14. Ford added seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Kristine Herman (R-Sr., San Ramon, Calif., Florida Gulf Coast) had 13 points and seven rebounds. Amber Williams (Jr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) scored 12 while Lauren Carter (R-Jr., Moorpark, Calif., Moorpark HS) tallied 11.

“They are an inside oriented team,” said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. “They used their height their advantage. We knew that coming in and that's what we tried our best to prepare for. The height got to us and that's been our weakness throughout the season. We played with a lot of effort and heart tonight and I'm proud of my team.”

CSUB is at Fresno State Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m.
