FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.-
The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners lost the first game of a four-game road trip
Saturday night 80-67 at Northern Arizona falling victim to an emotional
Lumberjacks squad and poor second half execution.
The Lumberjacks, playing their first game after the
unexpected resignation of former head coach Mike Adras, shot a season-best 55%
from the field while winning their first game under interim head coach Dave
Brown. The Lumberjacks 2-3 zone frustrated CSUB for much of the night forcing
the Roadrunners to shoot from the outside where they were 11 of 26 on the night
Northern Arizona also shot their share of three-pointers hitting 9 of 18 on the
game for a season-high 50%.
CSUB trailed at the half 40-32, but managed to retake the
lead 48-44 with 13:28 remaining following a three-pointer by Tyrone White (Jr,
Portland, Ore, North Idaho CC). The jumper however was the last field goal for
the Roadrunners for the next ten minutes as NAU went on a 16-0 run to put the
game out of reach while building a double-digit lead and never looking back for
their third win of the season.
White led CSUB with 17 points on 5 of 13 shooting while Zach Lamb (Jr., Norcross, Ga.,
Miami-Dade CC) added 16 points on 5 of 11 from the floor. Freshman guard James
Douglas led the way for Northern Arizona with 22 points
The Roadrunners continue their road trip at Portland State
on Thursday night at 7 P.M. They will also play at Idaho and Colorado before
returning to Bakersfield.
