McCall And Nystrom Win Individual Events At Pacific

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield competed at two different events this weekend. CSUB sent its swimming teams to Pacific for a triangular Saturday. CSUB dropped a 160-83 decision to Pacific and a 167-93 decision to Seattle.

Rachel McCall (Jr., Calgary, Alberta, National Sport School) won the 100 freestyle with a time of :52.89. McCall also finished second in the 200 IM (2:10.42) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.32).

Isabell Nystrom (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden, Limestone College) won the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:36.12. She defeated the second place swimmer from Pacific by over six seconds. Nystrom later finished third in the 500 free (5:18.06).

Lily Donahue (Jr., Portland, Ore., Boise State) was second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.93) and the 200 backstroke (2:08.64). Donahue also came in fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:11.17).

Madison Goodvin (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.74) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:20.13).

Chelsea Ankeny (Sr., Ontario, Calif., Riverside CC) was fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:15.58) and the 1000 free (11:02.17).

The 400 freestyle relay of McCall, Nystrom, Ankeny, and Sara Brady (Sr., Tehachapi, Calif., Bakersfield College) were third as the team posted a time of 3:43.67.

Jordan Reed (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) represented CSUB at the USC Trojan Diving Invitational Nov. 4-5. Reed did not get out of the preliminaries of either the 1m or 3m events. Reed was 24th in the 3m on Saturday (178.90) and 25th in the 1m (160.85) on Friday.

“The women continue to get stronger,” said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. “Rachel Macall swam some fast times for this part of the season. Nystom, Brady and Donohue are winning events. We are small team but there presents have been huge. The future keeps looking brighter for this team.”
