Pacific Defeats CSU Bakersfield 96-73

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The University of the Pacific shot 59.7% from the floor (43-of-72) as the Tigers (1-3) defeated CSU Bakersfield (2-3) 96-73 Tuesday night in the Icardo Center.

“Tonight was not one of our best efforts,” said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. “We did not come out with our best foot forward. We have to come out and peform, this was a bad performance.”

Pacific saw five players score in double figures, led by Christina Thompson who posted 22 points on 11-of-13 shooting. Ashley Wakefield scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kendall Rodriguez charted 12 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Also scoring in double figures for the Tigers were Ashley Smith (14) and Erica McKenzie. The Tigers recorded 33 assists (against 22 turnovers) on the 43 made field goals.

The Roadrunners were led by Amber Williams (Jr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) who scored 18 points. Tyonna Outland (So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Marilyn Naderhoff (R-Fr., Santee, Calif., West Hills HS) was 7-of-11 from the field for 14 points. Kristine Herman (R-Sr., San Ramon, Calif., Florida Gulf Coast) added 11 points, a team high six rebounds, and two assists.

“Our fans come here and pay their hard earned money to watch a performance, not watch us roll over and let another team come in our house and beat us,” McCall said. “This (peformance) was not acceptable, this is not what I'm used to in CSUB history, and again I apologize to our fans for that.”

CSUB heads to Miami, Fla. for the FIU Thanksgiving Class this weekend. The Roadrunners take on No. 8/11 Maryland Saturday at 11 a.m. PST and the host Panthers Sunday at 12 p.m. PST.
