UC Riverside Defeats CSU Bakersfield 76-62

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—UC Riverside (1-3) opened the second half on a 14-2 run as the Highlanders defeated CSU Bakersfield (2-2) 76-62 Saturday afternoon at UCR's Student Recreation Center.

UCR led 36-33 at halftime. The Highlanders made 6-of-8 field goal attempts during the game changing spurt which lasted a little over the opening four minutes of the closing frame. UC Riverside held the Roadrunners to 31.9% (23-of-72) shooting for the game.

“We played hard, but we needed to do a better job offensively,” said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. “We were attacking the rim, but we didn't do a good job of adjusting to (UC Riverside's) physical play. I thought we ended up fouling too much. We need to improve our offensive rebounding. On (days) like today when we do not shoot the ball well, we have to be able to rebound the basketball. We made some adjustments towards the end of the game and I think we can build upon those as we move forward.”

Lauren Carter (R-Jr., Moorpark, Calif., Moorpark HS) led the Roadrunners with 17 points. Amber Williams (Jr., Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda HS) scored 13 points. Tyonna Outland (So., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) posted 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Roadrunners host Pacific Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Icardo Center.
