SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.,- Tyrone White (Jr., Portland Ore.,)
hit two three-pointers in the final minute including the game winning
three-ball with 10.3 second remaining to lead CSU Bakersfield (1-1) over Cal
Poly (1-1) Wednesday night at Mott Gym.
CSUB led by 11 points in the first half following a 12-0 run
after trailing 10-8 early. The Roadrunners were on the verge of going up by 12
points in the first half before allowing a 7-0 Cal Poly run to end the half
cutting the Roadrunner lead to 34-30.
Cal Poly limited the Roadrunners shooting early in the
second half and built a 6-point lead, but the 'Runners bounced back late to cut
the Cal Poly lead to one point before White hit game winner with 10.3
remaining.
"I knew as soon as I let it go it was in," said White. "I
started to step back."
Will Taylor led the way for the Mustangs with a game-high 16
points while Armaury's Fermin added 14 for Cal Poly. Issiah Grayson (Jr., Atlanta, Ga., College of Southern Idaho) and Stephon Carter (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) led the Roadrunners with 12
points. Grayson was 5-for-8 from the field while Carter was 4-for-11 and 4-for-5 from the three-point line.
The win was the first for head coach Rod Barnes as head
coach for the Roadrunners and number 186 for his career.
The Roadrunners will head home to the Icardo Center for
their home opener Saturday night against Pepperdine at 7 p.m. Tickets are
