NIPOMO, Calif. - Chase Goodvin (So., Bakersfield, Calif.,
Frontier HS) shot a three-round total of 223 to finish in a tie for 23rd
place to lead the CSU Bakersfield Men's Golf team at the Firestone Grill Cal
Poly Invitational on Monday at
Monarch Dunes Golf Club.
The Roadrunners finished in 10th place in the
team standings at the end of the two-day tournament with a score of 913. Cal
State Fullerton won the team title with an 861.
"We didn't do as well as we'd hoped," said CSUB head coach
Dave Barber. "We have a lot of inexperienced, younger players and we've got a
lot of work to do before we go to Utah this weekend."
Goodvin was tied for third place entering Monday's final
round in the packed field that included 10 teams from all around California and
even Utah and Washington. After firing rounds of 73 and 68 in the first two
rounds on Sunday, Goodvin carded an 82 on Monday. Goodvin tied for seventh last
year at the same tournament as a freshman.
Matt Hammons (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Highland HS) carded
a 78-76-77-231 to finish in a tie for 44th, Jason Errecart (Sr., Kerman, Calif.,
Kerman HS) hit a 73-79-80—232 to tie for 48th and Dylan Lym (Fr.,
Evanston, Wyo., Evanston HS) shot a 81-78-74-233 to place in a tie for 56th
and round out the 'Runners score.
UCLA's Pedro Figueiredo finished atop the individual
leaderboard with a 73-71-67-211.
The Roadrunners will be back in action Oct. 10-12 at the
Utah Invitational in Layton, Utah.
