NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Moving up two places on the final day,
sophomore CSU Bakersfield's Chase Goodvin (Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS)
finished in a tie for 18th place to lead the Roadrunner Men's Golf
team at the Bill Cullum Invitational on Tuesday.
After a two-hour fog delay, Goodvin, who placed second at
the tournament in 2010 as a freshman, shot a one-over 73 to finish with a
two-over 218 (67-78-73) in the 54-hole, two-day tournament at Wood Ranch Golf
Club. The 'Runners finished in ninth place in the 13-team field with a score of
290-304-296-890.
Jason Errecart (Sr., Kermna, Calif., Kerman HS) also carded
a one-over round of 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 31st place
(73-76-73-222) after moving up eight places from Monday. Dylan Lym (Fr., Evanston,
Wyo., Evanston HS) tied for 34th place (75-74-74-223) and Matt Hammons (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Highland HS) ended in a tie for 48th
place (75-76-76-227). In his first tournament as a Roadrunner, Patrick Bell
(Jr., Manchester, England, Reedley College) tied for 78th place
(77-85-77-239).
"Today their scores were quite a bit lower than in the
afternoon on Monday," said CSUB head coach Dave Barber. "Overall it was a good
day."
Arizona State and Long Beach State finished as co-champions
of the tournament with 11-under 853s. Arizona State's Spencer Fletcher and
Loyola Marymount's Tyler Torano earned co-champion individual titles after
carding eight-under 208s.
The tournament concludes the fall portion of the 'Runners
season. They will now take a break from competition until Feb. 13-14 when they
will open up the spring schedule by traveling to the Southern Utah Invitational in St. George, Utah.
"The fall season was a learning process," Barber said. "We
have a lot of younger players on the team so now we know what to work on for
the rest of our season."
