BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The CSUB men's basketball team saw its five–game home winning streak snapped Sunday as Colorado rode a hot first half to an 85–73 victory in Rabobank Arena.
Colorado (10–4 overall) shot 53 percent (18–of 34) in the period, opening an 18–point lead at 47–29 late in the half. CSUB (8–6) cut the lead to nine by halftime and had a chance to get within three six minutes into the second half, but the Buffaloes weathered the storm and held on for the 12–point victory.
The Roadrunners got another monster game from junior guard Alex Johnson (Toronto/Vaughan Road Academy), who matched his career high with 26 points for the second consecutive game. Johnson entered Christmas break ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division I play with 42 three–pointers and added six more to his larder Sunday. He was 5–of–6 beyond the arc in the first half and finished the game 6–of–13.
CSUB also got another big game on the glass from junior forward Rashad Savage (Philadelphia/Odessa JC), who reached double figures for the ninth time in 14 games this season, finishing with a game–high 16 boards.
For Colorado, the dynamite backcourt tandem of Alec Burks and Corry Higgins did what it generally does. Both players posted their season scoring averages, finishing with 19 and 16 points respectively.
The Roadrunners will head to one of the nation's toughest venues Wednesday evening when they head to Albuquerque and The Pit to take on New Mexico. Tip–off is 7 p.m. MST.
