LAS
CRUCES, N.M. - The growing
pains continued for the young CSUB volleyball team Wednesday evening as NCAA
Tournament contender New Mexico State never trailed in a 25-13, 25-15, 25-11
sweep at the Pan American Center.
CSUB
couldn't point to a statistical highlight in the box score, which showed no
Roadrunner with more than three kills, a negative .115 team attack percentage
and just 39 total points. All were school record lows.
"I
think we were a bit intimidated, playing in front of the largest regular season
crowd (1,545) we've ever seen and against an experienced team that will be
playing in the NCAA Tournament come November," said CSUB Head Coach John Price. "Six
of our nine regulars are either freshman or were starting for just the fourth
time as collegiate players. Playing the caliber of competition we are facing
early in the season won't help our won-loss record, but it will help our young
players grow up quickly and we'll benefit from this down the road."
CSUB
jumps from the frying pan to the fire this weekend when it runs the gauntlet of
2009 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Arizona and Louisville as well as a 21-win
Butler team at the Marriott Wildcat Classic Friday and Saturday in Tucson.
