Roadrunners Rout Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield cross country team made the most of its first home meet of the year on Saturday by sweeping the top three individual spots en route to an 18-41 win over valley rival Fresno State.

The Roadrunners were led by senior Arianna Celis (Perris, Calif./Riverside CC), who won the race in 17:56 on CSUB's on-campus 5K course. Casey Glassey (Loma Linda, Calif./Riverside CC) was second in 18:25, and Judith Mata (Oxnard, Calif./Rio Mesa HS) completed the top three sweep in 19:05.

“It's nice to win at home,” CSUB cross country coach Robert Boyles said. “The girls are kind of training through these two weeks since we're not traveling, so we were concentrating on competing well this week, not times. Overall, I'm very happy.”

In addition to sweeping the top three places, the Roadrunners had four runners in the top five, and seven in the top 10. Freshman Monica Guzman (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces HS) was fifth in 19:11 and fellow Bakersfield resident Cecilia Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif./North HS) was seventh in 19:21.

CSUB remains in Bakersfield next week when it hosts the Roadrunner Invitational on Saturday morning.
