SAN
JOSE, Calif. - The CSUB
volleyball team got off to a disappointing start in it's opening match of the
San Jose State/Santa Clara Tournament, falling to fellow NCAA Division I
Independent Seattle University 25-20, 25-16, 25-23 Friday night in San Jose.
Junior
outside hitter Lindy DeGeare (Stockdale
HS) led both teams with 14 kills, but she was the only attacker of note for
the Roadrunners. Junior middle blocker Alysia
Baker (Vista/Tri-City Christian) hit .375, but on only eight swings as the
'Runners managed to set the middle just 12 times in the match.
Seattle
pulled away late to win the first set and then never let CSUB within four down
the stretch to win the second going away. A seesaw third set saw the 'Runners
go ahead 23-22 on DeGeare's 14th kill of the night, but the Redhawks
ran off the final three points to secure the win.
CSUB
concludes play at the San Jose State/Santa Clara Tournament with matches
against the host schools Saturday. The 'Runners play at Santa Clara at 11 a.m.
and at San Jose State at 7 p.m.
