BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - California
State University, Bakersfield and Houchin Community Blood Bank are partnering to
host a Community Wide Summer Blood Drive to boost summer stockpiles of blood. CSUB
will be the second stop on the community wide tour.
Donations can be made from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Romberg Nursing Education Center, Room 150 on
the CSUB campus. The drive is part of the University and Roadrunner Athletics initiative
to increase blood donation.
According to HCBB, the need for
blood products frequently is higher in summer months due to injuries associated
with increased travel and outdoor activities. Blood donation totals often are
lower during summer as normal donation patterns are disrupted.
Roadrunner Athletics is an
active participant in the local community, including holding several blood
drives each year to help save lives.
During the month of August,
donors will receive $10 off on lawn seating to attend the B-Town Blues Fest at
CSUB Amphitheatre on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Basic requirements to donate
include:
- Feeling
well for at least three days after a cold or flu
- Being
off antibiotics for at least 24 hours before giving
- Weighing
at least 110 pounds
- Eating
a meal in the six (6) hours before you donate
- Getting
a good night's sleep the night before you donate
- Waiting
at least 56 days from your last donation
- Bringing
a valid photo ID to your appointment
