WESTWOOD, Calif. - Juniors Derek Kasselstrand and Michael Davis each turned powerful performances Sunday for the Roadrunner track and field teams at the highly competitive Cal-Nevada Championships held at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA. Davis secured a pair of top-four finishes in the two sprint races while Kasselstrand finished his weekend with his second top-10 placing.
Kasselstrand recorded a 10th place finish late Saturday evening in the hammer throw, marking a season-best mark of 172-05. He carried that momentum into Sunday marking another season-best mark this time in the discus of 170-00 to place 4th. Davis ran a personal-best 21.57 in the 200 meters to place third overall behind two heralded UCLA freshmen. He opened his day with a fourth-place finish in the 100 meter dash, running 10.73.
Senior Connie King was ninth in her 400 meter final, running 1:06.18. In the 1,500, junior Arianna Celis placed 13th overall with a time of 4:43.89.
"We had some good performances today," said Head Coach Alan Collatz. "It was great competition and it was encouraging to see our athletes step up. I was really excited about our individual performances this weekend."
