CSUB Records Low Times at USC Trojan Invitational

LOS ANGELES - The CSUB track and field teams competed at the highly competitive USC Trojan Invitational Saturday held at the USC Locker Stadium/Cromwell Field. The Roadrunners recorded a seven top-10 finishes Saturday against a field of competitors that included Washington State, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton, Sacramento State, Long Beach State and the host Trojans.

Leading the way on the men's side were a quartet of juniors. Michael Davis claimed the highest individual finish for CSUB, placing fourth in a very fast 100 meter dash field in 10.82. In the discus, Derek Kasselstrand hit a new season-best with a mark of 168-2.9 feet to place sixth. In the long jump, Davis Charleston placed sixth while Ryan Nichols was seventh. The 4x100 meter relay team had a low time of 42.94 seconds to finish eighth. Senior Alex Haver saw a 15-foot improvement in the javelin, tossing a mark of 162-10.7 feet to place second in the "B" flight. Freshman Colin Ellis marked 46-3.5 feet in the "B" section of the shot put to finish 10th.

Junior Casey Glassey improved her 3,000 meter time by nearly 24 seconds, finishing second overall in 10:40.29. Sophomore Judith Mata was fifth in the same race, lowering her season-best time to 10:55.99 in the process. In the 1,500 meter run, junior Arianna Celis continued her strong season by setting a season-low time of 4:41.10 to place 11th overall.

The Roadrunners will head to Westwood, Calif., to take part in the Cal-Nevada Championships which begin on Saturday, Mar. 27, and run through Sunday, Mar. 28, on the UCLA campus.
