OMAHA, Neb. -– Mitch Monteiro capped his collegiate wrestling career Saturday morning with a fifth place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division I Championships at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.

The CSUB senior scored a takedown in sudden victory overtime to cap a 3-1 come-from behind win against Missouri's Mark Ellis in the fifth-place match. Ellis, seeed No. 9, broke a scoreless tie in the second period with an escape. Monteiro chose the bottom position to start the third, and also escaped, forcing overtime with the score knotted at one. That set up the suddent victory overtime period and Monteiro's winning takedown.

In his earlier match, the consolation semifinals, Monteiro scored on a pair of escapes, but his opponent, Duke's Konrad Dudziak had a takedown and escape to claim the narrow 3-2 decision.

Monteiro becomes the Roadrunners' 44th Division I All-American and the second in as many years. Last year, Brandon Halsey broke a four-year drought by placing seventh at 197-pounds. Monteiro concludes his career as a Roadrunners with a 53-18 record, a pair of Pac-10 individual titles and as an NCAA All-American.
