Hot-Shooting Boise Hands Men 81-62 Defeat

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State caught fire from long range and burned the CSUB men's basketball team in an 81–62 victory Wednesday night in Taco Bell Arena.

Boise came into the game averaging just five three pointers per game and shooting just 30 percent from beyond the arc. But the Broncos hit a season–high 12 treys on a season–high 57 percent effort, and that proved too much for CSUB to overcome.

The Roadrunners got a game–high 18 points from freshman guard Stephon Carter (Garces HS), all of them in the second half. He also led CSUB with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Senior forward Santwon Latunde (Landover, Md./Cowley County CC) added 12 points.

Anthony Thomas led a balanced Boise State effort with 15 points.

Boise jumped out to an 18–4 lead to open the game and CSUB never caught all the way up, though they nearly caught the Broncos with a furious run around halftime. Behind 38–21 late in the first half, CSUB embarked on a 14–2 streak to cut the deficit to 40–35. But trailing 43–38 midway through the second half, the 'Runners turned the ball over on consecutive possessions and Boise turned those gifts into five points and a 48–38 lead. CSUB never got within single digits again.

CSUB continues its five–game road trip to conclude the 2009–10 season Tuesday night, when it heads up Highway 99 to tackle Central Valley rival Fresno State in the Save Mart Center.
